Sabbath Arguments

1.    MYTH: The Sabbath is a Hebrew day, and only applies to Jews.

BIBLE FACT: The Sabbath was made for mankind. [Mark 2:27, 28]

2.    MYTH: The Sabbath is in the Law of Moses and was not for us under the New Covenant.

BIBLE FACT: The Savior has promised to write His Law in the hearts of all His followers. [Hebrews 10:16; Jeremiah 31:33, 34]

3. MYTH: Every day is a Sabbath day under the New Covenant. All days are now alike.

BIBLE FACT: The same Law that was the substance of the Old Covenant, is the same Law that will be written in the heart of the Creator's followers under the New Covenant. [Jeremiah 31:33, 34; Hebrews 10:16]

4.    MYTH: The Sabbath was changed to Sunday.

BIBLE FACT: Why would the Creator change the Memorial of His Creator Power, when He tells us He never changes? [Malachi 3:6]

5.    MYTH: Time has been lost. It is not possible for us to know which day is the actual seventh-day of creation.

BIBLE FACT: No time has been lost! The same 7th day the Savior kept, was the same during the Middle Ages when one of the Popes took 15 days out of the calendar. It didn't change the weekly cycle! The assumption that the events of the 1st week required thousands upon thousands of years, strikes directly at the foundation of the 4th Commandment. It represents the Creator as commanding men to observe the week of literal days in commemoration of vast, indefinite periods. This is unlike His method of dealing with His creatures. It makes indefinite and obscure that which He has made very plain. It is infidelity in its most insidious and hence most dangerous form; its real character is so disguised that it is held and taught by many who profess to believe the Bible.1 We have been commanded to keep the 7th day Memorial of His Rest. Would our Creator ask us to do something it was impossible for us to do? If you can't find the 7th day, how do you find the 1st day? In the earth made new, all the redeemed will keep the 7th day Sabbath. [Isaiah 66:22, 23]

    6.    MYTH: The Sabbath was not in force until the Ten Commandments were given at Mt. Sinai.

BIBLE FACT: The Sabbath was dedicated, and set apart after the 6 days of Creation, when the Creator rested and gave us an example. [Genesis 2:1-3]

7.    MYTH: If we were supposed to keep the Sabbath law today it would be found in the New Testament. It is not important for us today.

BIBLE FACT: "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law, or the Prophets: I came not to destroy, but to fulfill [the requirements]. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one yod or one apex of a Hebrew character will pass from the Law, until all is fulfilled." [Matthew 5:17, 18]

8.    MYTH: He wouldn't allow His blessed day to be changed so man could be deceived.

BIBLE FACT: He has told us in His Word that the scribes (translators) would write the Law wrong. [Jeremiah 8:8, 9]

9.    MYTH: To keep the 7th day would put us out of kilter with the rest of the world.

BIBLE FACT: As the claims of the Sabbath were presented, many reasoned from the worldling's standpoint. Said they: "We have always kept Sunday, our fathers kept it, and many good and pious men have died happy while keeping it. If they were right, so are we. [Who says they were right?] The keeping of this new Sabbath would throw us out of harmony with the world, and we would have no influence over them. What can a little company keeping the 7th day hope to accomplish against all the world who are keeping Sunday?" It was by similar arguments that the Hebrews endeavored to justify their rejection of the Savior. Their fathers had been accepted of the Almighty in presenting the sacrificial offerings, and why could not the children find salvation in pursuing the same course? So, in the time of Luther, papists reasoned that true believers had died in the Catholic faith, and therefore that religion was sufficient for salvation. Such reasoning would prove an effectual barrier to all advancement in religious faith or practice. 2

So if you are concerned

with being out of kilter with the world,

this world will be all you ever receive!

You will notice that the same arguments are made against the 3rd Commandment, His Name.
